The Gants - I Wonder (1967)

This group was originally called The Kingsmen, though not to be confused with the same The Kingsmen that released "Louie, Louie." They came from Greenwood, Mississippi.

You'll notice the melody of this song is very similar to the piano solo from "In My Life" by The Beatles. That was intentional. A lot of the songs by them, such as "My Baby Don't Care" (which you can hear here) had something to do with their idols, The Beatles.

[Update: Sid Herring of The Gants provided us with an exclusive story! You can read it here.]

Lyrics:

I don’t know why I’m shy
When she’s around
But I know when she leaves
My head hangs down

Is it her looks, her ways
That makes me care?
I always seem to see her
Everywhere

My how I wonder
What makes me feel
The way I feel
When I’m ‘round her, oh yeah

When I see her
I feel funny inside
Should I look? Should I talk?
Or should I hide?

I should go up to her
And ask her her name
But she might take me wrong
And I’ll feel ashamed

My how I wonder
What makes me feel
The way I feel
When I’m ‘round her, oh yeah

(Ooh, ooh, ooh...ooh, ooh, ooh…)
I wonder…
(Ooh, ooh, ooh...ooh, ooh, ooh…)
I wonder…
(Ooh, ooh, ooh...ooh, ooh, ooh…)
I wonder…
