The Merry-Go-Round - Live (1967)

Featuring a not-yet famous Emitt Rhodes and Joel Larson (of The Grass Roots), this pop rock group released one self-titled album in 1967. They performed both days at the Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival, but unfortunately garnered no large success from it since it had not been recorded on camera. Fairport Convention covered their song “Time Will Show the Wiser” for their first album and it remained a popular song for them at their concerts.

This song, the best selling single from the album was a top-ten hit in Los Angeles and San Diego. It failed to reach the top fifty on the national charts, but was later covered by the ‘80s group The Bangles in 1984.

Lyrics:

Oh, you're the kind of girl who's got herself wound up in a ball
Oh, you think you live, but how can ya?
Locked up in four walls

If you gotta go
You better live your life before you pass away
Don't waste a day
All your life's been spent locked in your room
You never had a chance to roam away from home

So you're gonna go
Go today
Don't waste any time
For in life, a day is worth a million
Soon you will find

If you gotta go
You better live your life before you pass away
Don't waste a day
All your life's been spent locked in your room
You never had a chance to roam away from home

Live, live, live, live
Live, live, live, live

Now do what you want
Go where you want
It's all up to you
For in life the rule is just to do
What you want to do

If you gotta go
You better live your life before you pass away
Don't waste a day
All your life's been spent locked in your room
You never had a chance to roam away from home

If you don't know now what life's about
Go on now and live
And if you don't know how, it's not so hard
Just let go and live

If you gotta go
You better live your life before you pass away
Don't waste a day
All your life's been spent locked in your room
You never had a chance to roam away from home

Live, live, live, live

Lyrics:

When I think of all the worries
That people seem to find
And how they're in a hurry
To complicate their minds
By chasing after money
And dreams that can't come true
I'm glad that we are different
We've better things to do
May others plan their future
I'm busy loving you

(One, two, three, four!)

Sha la la la la la live for today (hey)
Sha la la la la la live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey
Sha la la la la la live for today
Live for today

We were never meant to worry
The way that people do
And I don't mean to hurry
As long as I'm with you
We'll take it nice and easy
And use my simple plan
You'll be my lovin' woman
I'll be your lovin' man
We'll take the most from living
Have pleasure while we can

(Two, three, four!)

Sha la la la la la live for today (hey)
Sha la la la la la live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey
Sha la la la la la live for today
Live for today

Baby, I need to feel you inside of me
I got to feel you deep inside of me
Baby, please come close to me
I got to have you now, please (please)
Please (please) to gimme some a-lovin'
(To gimme some a-lovin’)
To gimme some a-lovin’
(To gimme some a-lovin’)
Baby, gimme some a-lovin'
(To gimme some a-lovin’)
(Got to have all your lovin’)
(Gimme some a-lovin')
(I need all your lovin')
(Gimme some a-lovin')
(Now I need all your lovin’)

Sha la la la la la live for today
Sha la la la la la live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey

Sha la la la la la live for today
(Oh, no, no, no, no, no)
Sha la la la la la live for today…
